Yesterday's announcement that Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion and producing new Star Wars movies naturally set the Internet ablaze. News outlets like Businessweek, USA TODAY, Reuters, and The New York Times reported the story, and everyone from the mainstream media to the most niche fan blogs weighed in on the subject. The Atlantic's Spencer Kornhaber was more pessimistic about what Disney would do with Star Wars, but he cautioned that the franchise "would survive" whatever decisions its new owners made.
Geoff Boucher over at Entertainment Weekly talked to a number of famous Hollywood directors who grew up with Star Wars to get their take on this news. "The Star Wars franchise is nothing short of a generational touchstone," said Shawn Levy, who directed Real Steel and the Night at the Museum movies. "I literally can't think of any comparable cultural phenom that has so pervasively shaped and galvanized viewers to the extent that Star Wars has."

I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated.
