Our friend Rob C. noticed that both TVGuide.com and Zap2it.com are displaying listings for what looks to be the follow-up to LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace. The second LEGO Star Wars television special is titled The Empire Strikes Out and is scheduled to debut on Wednesday, September 26th at 8:00PM on Cartoon Network. There are varying short descriptions for the special on the two source sites.
TVGuide.com: "New celebrity Luke begins a secret mission but is thwarted by his fans; Darth Vader clashes with Darth Maul."
Zap2it.com: "Shortly after the Death Star explodes, the rebels learn of a new Imperial threat."
We knew that a second LEGO Star Wars special was on the way thanks to the ForceCast's Jimmy Mac reporting the news from Anthony Daniels' panel at C2E2 in April of this year. Otherwise, this has yet to be announced so we'll be sure to keep you posted when we hear something official. Until then, tentatively save the date.
Thanks Rob!
UPDATE: Admittedly, I'm a few days behind on my podcast listening schedule, but it should be noted that this news was also reported on last Friday's episode of the ForceCast.
UPDATE #2: We now have an official announcement from StarWars.com confirming everything from the original post. Here's the description from the main site:
"Your favorite characters are back, and even though it's just moments after the Death Star has been destroyed, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and the rest of the Rebel Alliance's heroes have no time to rest on their laurels or stand around celebrating in the Yavin 4 hangar bay.
In LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out, premiering Wednesday, September 26 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), a new Imperial threat has been detected and the good guys have to act fast. But Jedi-in-training Luke discovers that instant fame as a "Death-Star-Blower-Upper" can be a double-edged lightsaber, as his secret mission to Naboo is thwarted by those most unstoppable of foes -- crazed fans! (It's hard being the galaxy's New Hope.) Meanwhile, Darth Vader sees his day go from bad to worse when his relationship with the Emperor is imperiled by the unexpected arrival of Darth Maul. Luke and Vader's quests to prove themselves lead them on a collision course with each other (literally) and their destiny."
