OK, so let's continue with some more Sam Witwer news shall we? It was back in October that rumors started to surface of Sam Witwer returning to voice another character on The Clone Wars. The majority of these rumors stemmed from fan reports coming out of conventions where some fans were lucky enough to speak with the actor. From there the rumors progressed to rumblings that not only was Witwer set to return to The Clone Wars, but that he would be voicing the one and only Darth Maul. This new stage of the rumor was further fueled by a Starwars.com link that noted Witwer would be voicing Maul. The main site then ammended their link to list it as a rumor, thus frustrating us who thought we had gotten a confirmation.
Flash forward to today when I was taking a gander at Sam Witwer's IMDB page while working on the post concerning the actor and The Walking Dead, and I noticed that his TCW credits have been updated. His IMDB TCW credits now list him as being a part of 5 episodes as the characters of The Son (from last season's Mortis Trilogy) and...wait for it...Darth Maul!
So it seems that rumors have now become fact and I think a lot of us out there will be more than a little excited for this news. Witwer as The Son was my personal favorite voice acting performance of the show so far, and there have been a lot of great performances all around. Having Witwer return as such an iconic character only seems fitting considering what a great job he did previously.
Folks might be wondering why Peter Serafinowics, who voiced Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, didn't get the part. When you publicly lambast the film, I think you might ruin your chances for future LFL work. Just sayin.
Congrats to Sam! Season 4 of The Clone Wars has been fantastic and what's to come just got a little better. Now only one last major question remains: Will Darth Maul have droid legs or will he be legless while sitting on one of Yoda's floaty chairs?
