Martino Junior High School in New Lenox, Illinois will be creating a Star Wars Museum in order to benefit Toys for Tots this Friday and Saturday (December 10 & 11). One of the school's teachers is donating his $10,000 Star Wars collection for display. The collection includes replicas, props, toys and more. While the museum itself sounds like a lot of fun, the fun doesn't stop there! The benefit will also feature:
- Toy raffle - Star Wars movie screening - Jedi Training School for the younglings - A Star Wars coloring center - Star Wars LEGO building - Star Wars-themed concessions for sale
While tickets for those above the age of 3 cost $2, you can get in for free by bringing an unopened toy to donate to Toys for Tots.
UPDATE: Martino Junior High School Guidance Counselor, and Star Wars collector John Wettergren (or Mr. Wettergren as he's most likely known to his students) reports that their Toys For Tots Star Wars Museum Benefit was a huge success...
"I've been a fan of your website for many years. I can't tell you how excited I was when I visited your website last Tuesday and noticed that there was a post about our Toys 4 Tots Star Wars Museum at Martino Junior High School in New Lenox, Illinois.
I just wanted to give the Star Wars Community a shout out and let them know that our Star Wars Museum was a huge success. We had hundreds of people show up for the two day event and when it was all said and done we had a "Death Star Trash Compactor" full of toys and over $2,500.00 in monetary donations. Our school's student council will use that money this week to buy even more toys for the Toys 4 Tots charity. We could not have achieved this awesome accomplishment without the Star Wars fans (of all ages) that braved the rain and snow to come out and support our cause. It is also a testament to all of the hard work that was put into the event by the club sponsors (Brandon Kilstrom and Jennifer Stiglic) and the 7th/8th grade student council volunteers.
I have included a few pictures of my collection and toys we received from the Star Wars Community. Have a great holiday season and May The Force Be With You!"
Thanks to John for the report and congrats to all of the students and faculty who donated their time and effort for a great cause. Star Wars fans are the greatest and this is yet another example.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
