We are joined this week by the incredible artist, Katie Cook. This interview flies by so keep up, kids!
MandyB: For the uninitiated briefly describe your artistic style.
Katie Cook: I like to think it's adorable, sexy and unique!
MB:Why Star Wars? What first interested you about the franchise?
KC: I grew up a star wars fan. I was raised on sci-fi and Star Wars is just about the best sci-fi there is! I loved the story, I loved the characters... and later on, I loved Han.
MB: Though people may be familiar with your Star Wars work, what other licenses are you involved in?
KC: I've worked on things for DC, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Heroes, and, most recently, Fraggle Rock!
MB: For all the aspiring artists out there, tell us how you became an officially licensed Star Wars artist.
KC: Topps asked me to do some Star Wars sketch cards... I got noticed to do more work from there!
MB: Can fans look forward to seeing you at Celebration V?
KC: If i'm invited to be in artist alley, yes! ;)
MB: What?s the biggest challenge you face as an independent artist?
KC: ...besides paying my mortgage? hmm... I think staying current and getting fans!
MB: Do you have a favorite character or subject to draw?
KC: I love to draw my cats... yes, I love to draw Star Wars... but I love to doodle my kitties.
MB: Your Topps sketch cards have become hot collector items. In the words of Master Yoda, ?How feel you??
KC: I'm always shocked by how much some of my cards go for online. I'm humbled.
MB: Are there any upcoming projects you can discuss with us?
KC: Of course! As far as Star Wars goes, I'm doing an Empire Strikes Back print through Acme Archives/Star Wars shop. And, as far as other projects go, I'm also working on the new FraggleRock comic book!
MB: What?s the wackiest commission you?ve received (and filled!)?
KC: I've gotten several oddball requests I haven't filled... but as far as actually drawn? Probably a Wookiee family "life day" scene.
MB: I understand your love for robots runs deep. What brought about this condition?
KC: As I said before, I was raised on sci-fi. One of my favorite things growing up was the design of all the different robots. Now, I collect robot toys, figures and art. My house looks... weird.
MB: Master Yoda and the Cookie Monster have a philosophical discussion?. What happens?
KC: Somehow, I can see Yoda being very supportive of Cookie's love of delicious, delicious cookies:
Cookie: "You see Yoda, the cookie is a metaphysical power. Cookies are all around us." Yoda: "Hrm... see this, do I. Chocolate chips are like midichlorians that are contained within every being. Cookie: "Er... yeah!"
MB: Katie, you've been an absolute delight, and here at TFN, we love your art. Keep up the amazing work!
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
