TCW: Yahoo TV Talks To Wood & Acord

Posted By Eric on February 28, 2012

Yahoo! TV contributor Eric Shirey posted two interviews on Friday that Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans may find interesting. The interviews were with Skywalker Sound's Matthew Wood and David Acord, both of whom also voice characters in the series. Wood is famous for his performance as General Grievous (whom he also played in Revenge of the Sith), as well as the battle droids. Acord is the voice of almost a dozen characters, including the Separatists' "rabbit droids."

Wood talked with Shirey about the process of creating Grievous' voice. Here's an excerpt from that interview:

When you record Grievous do you think about the character at different levels of continuity? Do you try to capture him in different periods of his life?

When I did the part back in "Revenge of the Sith" I didn't have a lot to go on. It was our first introduction to the character. As we've gone on, there's a level of frustration in Grievous I try to portray now. He's never quite been able to achieve what he wants. He's been given this army of droids that are somewhat ineffective against Jedi. I think he's more and more frustrated with Dooku. In previous episodes he's even hung up on Dooku on the hologram because he's mad. I think frustration is something that builds in the character.

Acord described his sound design contributions to TCW and also teased his next on-mic role in this Friday's episode, "Bounty". Here's a bit of that discussion:

You'll be adding a new character to your resume with the March 2nd episode of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Tell us a little bit about him.
There's a bounty hunter droid named Highsinger I'll be voicing in an episode entitled "The Bounty." He's a brand new character. He's a companion bounty hunter for Boba Fett. He's like Boba Fett's Chewbacca. He's a giant assassin-type droid who is Boba Fett's bodyguard and companion.
