Shot by Shot Analysis of Making SW2 Feature Posted By Joshua on May 1, 2001
Hoedaack in the forums comes up with some great observations of nuggets hidden in the latest documentary of Episode II on the Official Site:
Spoilers! Highlight to read and for the full explanation of what is behind Doug in the picture below:
This is a bit long, so bear with me! Here's a rundown of some observations on the new video, with track timings.
Although that looks like the Imperial logo on the side of Obi-Wan's fighter at 1:28 and 2:38 (which is also painted on the side of the Attack Gunships, BTW), it might also be a version of the design on the floor of the Jedi Council chamber, as seen here.
The saber seen on Obi-Wan at 1:30 certainly seems to be his Episode 1 saber.
As I noted initially last night, the breakdown of about half the pictures at 1:52 behind Doug Chiang's head seems to be:
1) Slave One (top, center) 2) Tipoca City (middle center) 3) Queen's flying wing landed (left lower diagonal from Tipoca) 4) Trade Federation Battlecruiser Sphere (right lower diagonal from Tipoca) 5) "Squadron of Republic Attack Gunships"? (left upper diagonal from Doug) 6) Attack Gunship ramp/boarding ramp for Coruscant Airbus (to the left of "Gunships") 7) Solar Sailer in Geonosis hangar (bottom right hand corner of the frame, color)
Can't make out what the other shots are.
At 2:11 on the far left of the rows of pin-board drawings Doug and George are marking, they're going through designs for the Coruscant Passenger Airbus seen briefly in the first "Here We Go Again" Episode 2 video (at 0:56, 0:58, and 0:59 in that. One of the clapperboard shots in "HWGA" at 0:59 has a close-up of the Airbus's in-flight monitors) If you're interested, a not very clear version of the finished Airbus design can be seen in here in "WEO" at 2:11 in the furthest vertical row on the pin-board, exactly in a line with the shelf in the background. The other vehicles in the top-right of the pinboard all seem to be early designs for Zam Wessel's speeder.
In the next shot at 2:12, George is marking storyboards for the Zam Wessel Coruscant chase. (That "Batwing" shape looks similar to Zam's speeder.)
All the landing platform shots at 2:36 are obviously on Coruscant. Mace Windu seems to be wearing the "altered" Darth Maul-style half light-saber that he had in the Episode 1 Visual Dictionary book, strangely.
If you see other items we may have missed send them in!
Update: Both Chris and Mads Bluhm have noticed Mace Windu's lightsaber in the vidcap here. As you can see by the blown up image, it doesn't provide definitive evidence as to which lightsaber Mace Windu uses.
