Star Wars excitement lands at Philadelphia's Please Touch Museum today in celebration of "May the 4th Be With You." Check out the press release below, courtesy of Examiner.com, which highlights a number of fun activities planned throughout the day.
Philadelphia, PA ? Please Touch Museum (PTM) will transport visitors to a galaxy far, far away during ?May the 4th Be With You,? on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, from 9:00am to 7:00pm. Space-themed programs and Star Wars toy displays will help children learn through play, while celebrating ?unofficial Star Wars Day.? Activities for ?May the 4th Be With You? are included in the regular price of admission.
Since its premiere in 1977, Star Wars has played an important role in pop culture and childhood play. Movies, comic books, lunchboxes, activity books, toys and action figures provided children with important tools to expand their imaginations. Many of these items have remained popular over the last thirty years, and have since become collectables for children of all ages. Please Touch Museum will present a wide array of these vintage and contemporary Star Wars toys from the museum?s greater collection of over 20,000 toys and play objects.
In addition to the toy collections, PTM will host Jedi Knights, from PA Jedi, that will meet the little ?citizens of the ?empire.? At 12:30pm and 6:00pm, children will dance to music from the Star Wars movies, as well as other music from those eras, during the ?Far Far Out Dance Party.? Princess Amidala will host story-time in the Story Castle at 12:30pm and 3:30pm. Between 5:00pm and 7:00pm, the 501st Garrison Carida will present Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Boba Fett for photographs with children. The villains will also lead the ?Imperial March? End of Day Parade.
On-going museum programming will include a trip to the outer reaches of the galaxy in the permanent space-themed gallery, ?Flight Fantasy.? The Elaine-Wideman Vaughn Program Room, adjacent to ?Flight Fantasy,? will also host star map painting, along with other activities.
Admission is $15 for adults and children age one and over. Children under one are free. All activities for ?May the 4th Be With You? are included in the general price of admission. As part of the ?Target First Wednesday Program,? admission is only $2.00 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm.
