The title of this story basically says it all and requires no further intro if you ask me. Click here to head on over to MarketSaw.com to read a blog article that claims a brand newStar Wars trilogy is currently being kicked around by Lucasfilm for release in 3D.
According to the blog post, "I have been hearing rumblings... extremely quiet at first, but now heating up significantly and from a trusted source - that George Lucas is preparing to unleash another STAR WARS trilogy upon us, this time in stereoscopic 3D. This is NOT the TV series, these are brand spankin' new 3D STAR WARS movies."
And "A lot depends on the success of AVATAR this winter - if it takes off like everyone is expecting it to, then you will most likely see three additional STAR WARS movies added."
As rumor-ific as rumors can be, ladies & gentlemen. So read the full blog here and decide for yourself what you want to believe. Naturally, we'll be right here to provide you with any confirmed news on this rumor (if any are even released). But for now, I wouldn't hold your breath.
Thanks to everyone (including our good buddy Kyle Newman) who sent in this update.
UPDATE: Quint at AICN contacted Lucasfilm PR regarding the fun rumors above and got the following simplistic response:
"We do not have any Star Wars theatrical movies planned."
The AICN article goes on to say that though Lucasfilm isn't always honest with their responses in order to keep surprises under wraps, they tend to believe the response given how busy George Lucas is with multiple television shows. Click here for the full article but beware of a little adult language.
If you're still in the mood to ponder the rumors as fact, then you might enjoy this feature at FusedFilm where they list 5 directors they'd like to see in the Star Wars director's chair.
Thanks to David M. for bringing the AICN's Lucasfilm response to our attention via TotalSciFiOnline.com.
UPDATE #2: Sick of hearing about the new Star Wars trilogy rumors? Then definitely don't watch the end of the video below from Movie Geek Feed where Steve Sansweet touches on the subject at Fan Days III (around 2:58 in) after talking about 1000 Collectibles.
We can believe a little that we read on the interweb, right? Right?!?

They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
