As New York Comic-Con kicks off and Ashley Eckstein prepares to co-host MTV Geek's live-streaming coverage of the convention, The New York Times has posted a profile of Eckstein and her company, Her Universe. As regular TFN readers know, Her Universe, which won the Rebelscum 2012 Licensee of the Year award, has been firing on all cylinders this past year with its ever-expanding merchandise lines inspired by franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who. Here's a quote from the story by the Times' Gregory Schmidt:
As a longtime sci-fi fan, Mrs. Eckstein felt she could offer something that her fellow fan-girls were craving with Her Universe, which is expected to reach $1 million in sales this year and turn its first profit. ?In my research, I found that 80 percent of consumer purchases are made by women,? she said. ?Why wouldn?t you pay attention to women??
Shelley Solomon, a New Yorker who attends New York Comic Con every year with her sister, said Thursday that she has noticed the new efforts.
?It?s hard to find women?s clothing; you have to try boys? sizes,? said Ms. Solomon, a fan of science fiction and fantasy. ?They finally realize that women are into this stuff.?

Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
