Whether it be due to the economy or a reorganization by new company president Paul Meegan, LucasArts laid off approximately 85 of their 250 member staff yesterday. We've seen a lot of shifting at the top from LucasArts in the past 12 months, but this is a pretty big development as the company looks to their post-TFUII future. The job cuts were confirmed by LucasArts with the following:
"LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing," reads a statement from the company. "LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio ? and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners ? in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."
One of our source articles at Kotaku mentions that LucasArts president Paul Meegan was rumored to have cancelledThe Force Unleashed III which may have lead to Haden Blackman's resignation last month. That was rumored to be just one of many projects shut down as Meegan aimed to shift towards an increase of internal production for future titles. We'll let you know as we hear more. In the meantime, you can get more details through the source links below.
And if you don't mind me saying, while we hate to hear of any Star Wars title being possibly cancelled or put on hold, the big news here is the massive job loss in an already rough economy. We feel for those who were let go and we wish them all the best of luck in their search for new employment opportunities.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
