Star Wars fans in the Loveland, Colorado area got a chance to see The Empire Strikes Back on the big screen this evening at the Rialto Theater. Friend of TFN and The ForceCast Joshua Stolte attended the screening and sent in this report.
"Today a small theater in Loveland, Colorado was showing The Empire Strikes Back. The Rialto Theater hosted this event as part of the Rialto Bridge project. A project to raise money to help renovate the theater. I took my family out to see it and enjoyed an afternoon taking pictures and watching the 501st troopers, Jawas, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Tusken Raiders, rebel troopers, and more all crowded around the front of the theater, enjoyed by kids and adults alike. As we went into the theater R2-D2 greeted us on the stage in front of the movie screen. The lights dimmed and everyone cheered. I can't tell you the feeling I still get watching the movie in a real movie theater. It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear the music and watch the opening crawl. My kids have never seen the movie in this way and I'm glad they finally got the opportunity to experience it much the same way I did when I was their age. Judging by the gasp, when it was time for Darth Vader's big reveal, the woman sitting next to me had never seen the movie at all. (That also made me smile, knowing there's still adults that can feel that same shock that we all had)
I wouldn't have even known about this special screening if I hadn't seen the ForceCast's tweet mentioning it yesterday. So if you don't follow them, you should.
It turned out to be a fantastic family experience that we will talk about for a long time. The screen wasn't the biggest, the sound wasn't the best, but the experience was better than any that I get from watching Star Wars on a TV. Anytime you get a chance to watch the saga the way it was meant to be seen; with a group of fans, in a real theater, you should take it.
Thanks to Joshua Stolte for sharing his photos and providing a writeup!
