In addition to Disney's announcement that they were acquiring Lucasfilm, we also learned that Disney plans to release more Star Wars movies, starting with Episode VII (I still can't believe I'm writing this for real!) in 2015.
Naturally, speculation about the movie's plot commenced immediately. Might it be based on The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn? What about The New Jedi Order book series? Well, after an interview with me in which I described the various EU material that exists if Disney and Lucasfilm wish to draw on it, E! Online's Leslie Gornstein spoke to a Lucasfilm source and got the following quote:
"It's an original story," a LucasFilm source tells me.
So there you have it: Star Wars Episode VII will not be an adaptation of any existing licensed Star Wars story. Kiss your big-screen Thrawn Trilogy dreams goodbye. Given that Episode VII has undoubtedly been in the preliminary stages for some time, there is next to no chance that this will change.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one possibility being considered is an Avengers-style movie universe with not only Lucas' planned final trio of films but offshoot movies focusing on individual characters.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
