George Lucas: I Want To Start An Art Museum

CBS This Morning aired an interview with George Lucas today, in which the former Lucasfilm chairman discussed his plans for the future. Lucas took CBS' Bill Whitaker through the Skywalker Ranch library and art collection. He discussed his love of art and his interest in the paintings of Norman Rockwell. "When you see a Rockwell, you see something of yourself in there," Lucas said. "No matter who you are."

"I don't see anything wrong with having an idealistic, sentimental, fun point of view," Lucas added.

One of the things that Lucas mentioned in the interview was his desire to build an art museum that reflected the changing dynamics in the art world. He told Whitaker that he wanted to build it in San Francisco and stock it with artwork from his massive collection. The museum would also pay tribute to the emerging field of digital art -- a field pioneered by Lucasfilm's new corporate parent, The Walt Disney Company.

UPDATE: On his Facebook page, Lucasfilm fan relations adviser Steve Sansweet said that "[T]here's a lot more about this exciting venture that will be made public soon."
