From Bjo Trimble To Starwarschicks

Media stereotypes of Star Wars and Star Trek fans are ubiquitous. One of those is the myth that men, not women, are fans of these genres. Sociologist John Tenuto studied 8000 science fiction fans this autumn and the study challenges most of these stereotypes. One of these is the myth that men, not women, are fans of Star Wars or Star Trek. Actually, female fans are more active with their fan experiences than males. "From Bjo Trimble to Starwarschicks: Female Fans of Star Trek and Star Wars" is a presentation that discusses the history of women as fans and the modern experiences of Star Wars and Star Trek female fans.
