On Saturday July 8th at the Shore Leave convention In Hunt Valley Maryland a group of 6 representatives of the R2D2 Builders club presented Albin Johnson with a live size R2D2 robot in memory of his daughter Katie http://www.heartofanempire.com/Katie/ . Katie's father, Albin, founded the Fan-Based organization known as the 'Fighting 501st'.
Last year Albin joined the R2D2 Builders Club www.astromech.net with the plan of building his daughter Katie a Pink R2D2. Katie unexpectedly took a turn for the worst and when it did not look like the R2D2 now affectionately called R2KT would be finished in time for Katie to enjoy it Club member Andrew Schwartz repainted his personal R2D2 pink and loaned it to the Johnson family so Katie's dream could be fulfilled. Unfortunately Katie died of a brain tumor a few short months after receiving the Pink R2D2.
The R2D2 club then decided that a club made version would be created in loving memory of Katie. Money, parts and time were all donated by club members with Club member Jerry Green (www.r2-r9.com) doing the finial assembly of the robot. Jerry then drove from main to Maryland to bring the clubs R2KT to Albin and his family.
The R2D2 Club members in the picture are from left to right: Jerry Green, Albin Johnson his 2 daughters Allie & Emily, and wife Kathy, Mike Marosy, Pat Coaju Alex Coaju, Greg Tracy and Andrew Schwartz.
Rebelscum Breast Cancer Awareness Charity Patch Posted By Philip on November 25, 2014: Thanks to everybody that ordered patches. I sent a check for $1,600.00 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on Monday. While it's not as much as I hoped for, it's still very much appreciated. They will remain for sale in the store for anybody that still wishes to purchase them. Details after the jump.
