"As you probably know, I railed on Roger Ebert during last week's Force-Cast for his insensitive remarks about Star Wars fans in his review for "Fanboys". Ebert referred to Star Wars fans as living an "Idiotic Lifestyle". I encouraged listeners to write him at answerman@gmail.com. I emailed him my rant as well. Roger emailed me to let me know he planned to use my letter as an editorial on RogerEbert.com.
He had no response to my opinions but at least he knows how I / we feel. Check it out at...
ONE MORE THING...In my rant and in my letter to Roger, I said Chuck Woolery blasted the 501st at the Rose Parade when it was in fact Bob Eubanks. I always get those game show hosts confused with each other! So, sorry to Chuck Woolery for throwing you under the bus."
Well there you have it. Jimmy sticks up for all of us and we're all still cool with Chuck Woolery!
"In his latest "Answer Man" column on RogerEbert.com, Roger had this to say about the reaction to his insult of Star Wars fans in his review of Fanboys :
"I have received a lot of unhappy feedback from that review, in which I wrote: "Anyone who would camp out in a tent on the sidewalk for weeks in order to be first in line for a movie is more into camping on the sidewalk than movies." I have now learned many things about myself, most of which I cannot print here, although they solved the puzzle of what I would do with a third thumb. I was unfair in referring to all fans, when the ones I was thinking of were the heroes of "Fanboys."'
So there you have it. Roger is now clarifying that those he was referring to as living an "idiotic lifestyle" were specifically the characters in the films, and not the legions of Star Wars fans everywhere. Thanks to all who heeded my call-to-arms and let Roger feel the heat. Too bad his review of Fanboys is still way off-base. "
Ah, closure...thanks Jimmy!
UPDATE #2: Looks like news is getting out about the fight of the century: Jimmy Mac vs. Roger Ebert. Ok so it's really not a fight as Ebert didn't so much as fire back as he adjusted his stance. He did post the rant on his website though so you have to at least respect that. Well, io9.com picked up on the now infamous e-mail and recounts Jimmy's "wrath" here.
