"I thought I would inform you of a possible email scam that is targeting current subscribers of the Star Wars Insider magazine.
"Here is a copy of the email that I received this past Monday:
"Our bank has informed us that the credit card number used for your subscription was declined. We hope you still wish to subscribe.
"Please fax your credit card information instead of sending it in an email to us. Please fax your credit card information to; 1-515-433-1011, Attention: Sherry, Internet Department. Please make sure to include the name of the magazine, your complete name and address, and a copy of this correspondence.
"If you should need further assistance, please be sure to include all previous e-mail correspondence.
"Thank you for subscribing to Star Wars Insider.
"Sincerely, "Sherry
"I noticed that their return address came from a website called, cdsfulfillment.com. I went to this website and I could not find anything related to Star Wars Insider magazine. I hope that your website will be able research this further and also be able to notify Star Wars fans of this email scam."
While CDS Fulfillment does work with magazine subscriptions, it is unknown whether they have anything to do with the Insider. Further investigation is ongoing.
Please remember to never fax any credit card info to anyone soliciting information in an email. If it looks suspicious, then it is best to err on the side of caution
UPDATE: Lucasfilm confirmed today emails from cdsfulfillment.com concerning Insider subscriptions are valid. With the incredibly high level of scams online today, it's important to be vigilent, so it was kind of Lucasfilm to confirm these emails. Always remember, if you have any concern for the validity of contact from anybody requesting personal information, to independentally contact the requesting party by official channels, outside of any link or email address you might receive in an email.
Kristie K. also wrote in to say that Lucas Online informed her that e-mails from CDS Fulfillment will also now include their customer service phone number with any emails asking for credit card information in the future.
