The Joss Whedon fan site Whedonesque brought to our attention a Firefly-inspired parody fan film, quaintly entitled "Mosquito: Behind the Scenes Preview." This mockumentary was actually completed long before the Sept. 30 release of Serenity; in fact, some of you may have enjoyed "Mosquito" a few weeks ago at Dragon*Con 2005.

According to the official "Mosquito" Web site:

"Mosquito: Behind the Scenes Preview" is a comedic parody of Joss Whedon's sadly short-lived "Firefly" television show. Clips and interviews with the cast and crew accentuate this humorous sneak peak at another up and coming, yet doomed to failure, science fiction/western series.

Based on the DVD featurette "Here's How it Was," this short was filmed and produced by a crew in and around Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, between May 9th and June 15th, 2005.

The "Mosquito" Web site features Windows Media and Quicktime versions of the trailer and finished film in its Movies section. Some jokes are inappropriate for younger audiences.
