"Holiday Air Affair/Operation Hometown Fallujah December 8 12-3pm
On Saturday, December 8, the Strategic Air & Space Museum is offering FREE admission to those guests that bring in an item worth at least $5 to support Operation Hometown Fallujah (limit one free admission per party).
What is Operation Hometown Fallujah? The Strategic Air & Space Museum?s Facilities Manager, Dan Seaman, is a member of the Seabee?s Fox Company, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Fifteen, currently stationed at Camp Fallujah in Iraq. They are taking on a humanitarian project that will directly benefit the children of the local community. In the downtown area of Fallujah, numerous teachers provide a home and shelter for orphaned children. With the cold months coming on, Seabee?s Fox Company plans to distribute warm clothing and toys to the orphans through the Marines that patrol the neighborhoods.
What items are needed to be donated? Warm clothing for children, infant to age 10 including: jackets, sweaters, mittens, gloves, stocking caps, socks, underwear, t-shirts, shirts, trousers and sweatshirts. Toys are also needed such as: stuffed animals, small soccer balls, footballs, basketballs, small plastic cars and trucks and small plush or plastic dolls. New items as well as used items in good repair are acceptable. A donation of an item worth $5 or more will lead to one free admission (limit one free admission per party). The Museum will donate a portion of the paid admissions on December 8 to cover the cost of shipping.
What is going on December 8 at the Museum? One of the area?s most unique holiday events is back for its second year. The Strategic Air & Space Museum?s Holiday Air Affair, will be Saturday, December 8 from noon to 3 p.m. With the Museum?s world-class collection of aircraft as the backdrop, visitors can get into the holiday spirit with family activities including photos with Santa in the Museum?s FB-111 and a meet and greet with members of the 501 Legion.*
Since 1997, the costuming organization known as the 501st Legion has spread the magic of the Star Wars genre worldwide through its authentic-looking costumes, and has become the leading force in fan-based charity events. The 501st, also known as ?Vader?s Fist,? is truly dedicated to brightening the lives of those less fortunate.
With a mix of aviation, space and holiday cheer, the celebration will include milk and cookies, holiday crafts and a card making station for the troops.
Santa will arrive promptly at noon and will be lead into the Museum by the 501st Legion to the FB-111 where children can have their photo taken with him and purchase a CD of the image for $5."
Special thanks to Kurt G. for the heads up!
