Celebration VI: Star Wars Collectibles Update

Posted By Adam on August 23, 2012

Coming in a little late to the panel meant catching the tail-end of Chris Spitale discussing the process of developing the Celebration VI Exclusive Tiki Art Poster, before he moved onto the Collectible Preview section, beginning with Sideshow Collectibles to discuss the Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, two pack Battle Droid set and Battle Droid and S.T.A.P. from The Phantom Menace.

Staying with Sideshow, Spitale then previewed the 1/6 scale line, which included Darth Vader, with the Sebastian Shaw likeness (sans eyebrows), the 212th Battalion Airborne Trooper, Snowtrooper, and also Boba Fett and Bossk, before announcing the Hoth Han Solo and Luke Skywalker figures. Next was the Mythos line of statues, that currently features Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as a Gamorrean Guard, and the Shaak Ti and Darth Malgus Premium Format Figures. Rounding out the Sideshow section, he then showed images of the R2-D2 & C-3PO 1/4 scale figures with working lights and sounds as well as a preview of Chewbacca, who will come with an interchangeable bowcaster and imperial blaster.

eFX followed and forthcoming products included Starkiller's lightsaber, Darth Vader, and Obi-Wan Kenobi reveal lightsabers, a Legend Edition of Darth Maul's lightsaber taken from the moulds used in The Phantom Menace, and also the Return of the Mini .45 scaled lightsabers. Unlike the orignal Master Replicas versions however, these would feature electronics and light-up blades. The remaining products to come from eFX in the foreseeable future, that were shown, were the Biker Scout helmet, which uses the moulds from the original, a Yoda puppet, and a Slave I FX model.

Kotobukiya were up next and primarily featured the ARTFX+ statues, looking at the Return of the Jedi version of Boba Fett, the Darth Vader Return of Anakin Skywalker, a two pack of the Emperor's Royal Guards, as well as showing a preview of Jango Fett, revealing that the next Bishoujo statue would be Mara Jade and also that a new full-bodied Death Star ice tray would be released to accompany the likes of the X-Wing and Millennium Falcon trays.

Briefly touching on Funko's monster mash-up bobble-heads, we were treated to images of a Grim Reaper Jawa, a Tusken Raider Mummy and concept designs for Emperor and Darth Maul vampires, while Chris also mentioned that there had also been some discussions about a Ceremony Leia/Bride of Frankenstein mash-up.

The remaining previews covered some of the smaller licensees, including Medicom Toy Corporation x Enterbay's Real Action Hero Han Solo (Endor Battle Gear), new rag doll plushies from Comic Images, with Han Solo and Chewbacca concept art and a Yoda prototype being shown, and a new neon-lights line from Diamond Select Toys, with Darth Vader and Boba Fett heads being shown and mention made of symbols and emblems from the saga appearing in the future. A UK-exclusive ceramic Death Star birdhouse was shown, before Spitale announced a new addition to the world of licensed Star Wars products in the form of automotive accessories such as seat covers, floor mats, mud-flaps and steering-wheel covers. From ThinkGeek we got to see lightsaber popsicles, as well as a spring-loaded Han in Carbonite business-card-holder, which differs to the latched version from Kotobukiya, which is only available in Japan in any case.

The presentation ended with Spitale announcing a female line of Star Wars inspired outfits from Rubies Costumes, currently for young-adults and teens, although there are plans to expand the line to cater for all ages.

We hope to be able to bring you the full presentation, so stay tuned and remember to keep checking back for more Celebration VI coverage.
