INFORMATION:
This advance poster for The Phantom Menace was created by Ellen Lee as the concept and graphic designer with George Lucas as art director and Jim Ward as marketing director. The poster was offered in single sided format by the Star Wars Fan Club and had a high print run. It sports a Lucasfilm watermark on the back that is revealed with a blacklight and confirms authenticity. (You can also see it by holding the poster in the right light.) On the single sided advance you can find the watermark in the exact location of where the Lucasfilm logo is on the front of the poster. The watermark is actually a backwards Lucasfilm logo without any copyright text. It is about 1.5"x0.5". We have yet to confirm whether or not this watermark is on the double sided advance poster.
Double sided prints went to theaters and are harder to come by. 500 banners were also sold by the fan club while around 1500 went to theaters. Many foriegn variations are available.
The Star Wars Poster Archive reports: "Lucas pressured 20th Century to put a tagline across the bottom of the poster similar to the old NSS tagline about the poster being the property of 20th Century Fox."
