One of the most impressive attractions at Celebration II had to be the stuff from LEGO. The LEGO people pulled out all the stops: from their new AOTC sets and the stunning Geonosis and Endor displays, to the life-sized Darth Vader and Jango Fett statues. And the grand finale: the HUGE Yoda model that we watched go up all weekend, until it was finished at noon on Sunday.
Every character, it seemed, had his/her/its LEGO incarnation. Except for one. And it's an omission that's bugged many of us ever since the Star Wars sets came out three years ago: "why isn't there a Lando Calrissian minifigure?" Sunday morning at Celebration II I (Chris) asked one of the LEGO reps about that.
Their answer is this: when the minifigs first came out the color yellow was thought to be the most "neutral". That if a Lando figure were made with a darker color, then it would be assumed that yellow was meant to be "white" all along. To avoid that, LEGO chose to not make Lando at all. I told the rep that a Lando figure would probably still be accepted: just do the hair and that mustache right. The rep expressed doubts about it, but said LEGO had received several inquiries and notes of interest: "it's something we're looking into."
That's the line from LEGO about Lando. Let's hope they make a Lando minifig sometime soon: he's one of the best characters in the saga. He deserves being immortalized as a minifig! :-)
