![]() "they apparently reflect the mood of the Gungan. If they are surprised, they stand up comically in all directions. Other times they simply move around. Kind of like the tail of a cat. The motions reflect the mood."It's very likely that these 'dreadlocks' are only added in post-production by ILM, and that might be the reason that the Bothan Spy didn't mention them in his description of what he saw of Jar-Jar. I asked the Bothan Spy a few other questions, and here are his answers: When you say that Jar-Jar looks like 'Croc', does that mean that Jar-jar has a tail, like Croc? "I'd imagine he has one, and the actor used for reference only had the rubber mould of Jar-Jar's head and arms - no other body parts. This is because the actor (Ahmed Best) mimics Jar-Jar's head and arm movements/expressions - so those parts of his body are recreated as Jar-Jar for the computers to 'lock onto'."Some people wrote me that Jar-Jar's eyes in my virtual version of Jar-Jar look a bit too 'cartoonish'. Does Jar-Jar really have these raised eyes, like Croc? "Raised? Yes"And finally, I asked the Bothan Spy whether Jar-Jar wore any clothes? "Not on the head or arms" |
By the way, it seems that the Gungans are not the only ones to have some kind of dreadlocks in the Prequels. According to the Bothan Spy, the Battle droids also have 'tentacles' at the back of their heads. The battle droids were called 'Gungans' during filming; it is possible that George Lucas changed his mind and used the name 'Gungan' for Jar Jar's people later on: "The only "Gungans" used or mentioned during filming *are* the Battle Droids. They are the Gungans, from what I could tell. And these had tentacles at the back of their heads (about 100 of them!)" |
And finally,
here's some speculation for you to ponder about:
On one of the photos that have been published recently, you can see a glimpse of an alien that has a big tail. Here's the enhanced detail: ![]() Could this be a glimpse of one of the Gungans or even Jar Jar? And remember what the Bothan Spy said about Jar Jar's green, veiny, muscular arms? And what do you see in this picture?
