STAR WARS
Executor: Details

hull blisters

The flat hull surfaces of the Executor are covered with raised, rectangular blisters or panels that are a few tens of metres across. Some are narrower than others, but all have approximately the same area has the primary turrets on a star destroyer. They could be weapons batteries too, although individual gun barrels would not be resolvable at the structural resolution of the Executor special effects model.

However it is possible to classify and count the blisters according to their distribution on the ship's surface. Photographs have been taken at several exhibitions.

Here are the subtotals of blister counts for all regions of the dorsal hull, and representative regions of the ventral hull. Ventral "bow" is incorporated into "ventral side", and the basic wedge hull does not occur in the fantail.

section     dorsal     ventral
starboard fantail 65-
starboard wing 7117
starboard side 96146
starboard bow 83-
portside fantail 68-
portside wing 73??
portside side 105??
portside bow 55-

Thus there appear tobe 315 blisters on starboard dorsal surfaces, and 301 on the portside dorsal surfaces. The total of 616 is 77 times greater than the number of heavy turrets on a star destroyer. This is on the order of the ratio of hull areas between the two ship classes (Executor is roughly 11 times as long, 6 times as wide and twice as high as a destroyer).

There are about 163 blisters on ventral hull surfaces of the starboard side. This is just slightly more than half the number on dorsal hull surfaces of that side. The density is reasonable considering the greater area of dorsal hull. Portside ventral surfaces are not yet counted. If the portside and starboard ventral surfaces are equally equiped then there are about 942 blisters on the whole ship. That is almost 118 times the number of heavy turrets on a one mile long star destroyer.
