this was the standard form of measuring time throughout the galaxy, and was based on current time of day on Coruscant. Most chronometers had a feature that allowed the user to check their own current time against the Galactic Standard. Most starships also had a setting that would maintain shipboard time at the Galactic Standard, thereby defining day and night aboard ship.
