this was the document which laid the foundation for the Old Republic. For many generations, the Constitution remained a stable and unaltered document, until the Clone Wars swept across the galaxy. During this time, Chancellor Palpatine was allowed to remain in office after a series of emergency amendments to the Constitution, most of which were part of a larger plan that had been hatched by Darth Sidious. As the Clone Wars ground on, and as Palpatine became more powerful, he began to hint that several more amendments would be necessary to ensure that there was peace in the galaxy once more. Although he claimed that all his work was designed to preserve the Constitution, the changes Palpatine made were part of his sweeping plan for the New Order, which eliminated much of what the Constitution originally was created for.
