this ancient mining droid was produced during the years surrounding the Great Sith War. Because these droids were often used on remote planets, they were sometimes programmed to defend themselves as well as perform basic mining operations. In this way, the Mark II could protect itself - and its owner's investment in the mines - in case of a raid by a rival mining company or pirates.
