Reservoir-locking Valve
this hydraulic mechanism was used on many older starship models to raise and lower a vessel's landing gear. The valve ensured that they hydraulic fluid remained in a given reservoir, thereby keeping the landing gear in the retracted or extended position, depending on the situation. If this valve ever failed, a starship would be forced to make an emergency landing and get the valve repaired.
