this was a term used by starship pilots to describe the progressive loss of shipboard systems that occurred when a ship was badly damaged, either in combat or by being stuck. Quite often, the loss of one or two key systems caused subsequent failures in other systems, creating the burn-out creepage and rendering the ship inoperable.
