this was the term used to describe any being who had become deeply attached to the Colony. Joiners were distinguished by their belief in the altruism of the various hives of the Colony, and the way in which they acted upon the Will of the Colony without hesitation. For the most part, the Joiners became a hive's liaison to the outside galaxy, acting as translator and guide during discussions or negotiations. The role of Joiners didn't become apparent until about five years after the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy was stopped, when UnuThul began attracting more and more beings to the Unknown Regions to help the Colony survive against the Chiss. Over time, those beings who remained within the hive too long were absorbed by the hive, and could no longer think for themselves. Once a being was joined to the hive, the hive had access to all of the being's memories and skills, including the understanding of languages and the absorption of feelings and emotions.
