this was the simple name used to describe the thirty-seven human families who traced their roots back to the earliest settlements on the planet Desevro. Many of these families maintained luxurious estates in the Swamplands, while poorer humans and nearly every alien lived in the slums of the cities. Because of their histories and their political clout, the Thirty-Seven Families were considered the primary power-holders on Desevro.
