Child of the Bowl
according to the religion of the Cosmic Balance, families were required to have children in pairs, in order to help maintain the balance of the galaxy. Under the Rule of Feather and Bowl, each pair of children was given an aptitude test during their teenage years, with the less-promising child being given a small, golden bowl. Then known as a Child of the Bowl, the teenager was sent to live in a communal Simple Home, forgoing wealth and luxury in order to balance out the wealth experienced by the Child of the Feather. However, the Child of the Bowl could look forward to living in relative wealth in the afterlife, thereby ensuring the continued balance of the galaxy. Many of these children eventually leave the religion of the Cosmic Balance, unsatisfied with the mere promise of a better Life To Come.
