this Yuuzhan Vong creation allowed a starship captain or pilot to communicate directly with his ship, thereby making every order or command an instantaneous action. The cognition hood was connected to a starship by a modified creeper, and was worn over the head and shoulders of a pilot. A cognition hood was not sentient, and could not tell the difference between any two individuals, nor between races. It simply acted as a conduit for communication between the pilot and their ship. Data from the ship is realyed to the pilot in the Yuuzhan Vong language, and the pilot can issue orders or commands by speaking into the hood. Additionally, the cognition hood served as a form of flight recorder, capturing the pilot's thoughts and memories in much the same way it collected data from the ship. These captured memories could later be used in debriefing a pilot.
