this asteroid mining facility was owned by the Commerce Guild during the last years of the Old Republic. Escarte itself was just one asteroid in an entire belt that was owned by the Escarte Commerce Guild, and was located between a pair of massive gas giants. The moons of these planets contributed to, and were drawn from, the asteroud field. The asteroid itself was originally an oblate body, but had been so extensively mined for ores that it was little more than a concave hemisphere by the time of the Clone Wars. The Escarte asteroid served as the Escarte Commerce Guild's base of operations in the asteroid field. The Guild established itself on the asteroid some seventeen years before the onset of the Clone Wars, and extracted every bit of useful ore from the asteroid in just over a decade.
