this ancient space station was erected in orbit around the gas giant Yavin, more than 4,000 years before the Battle of Yavin. Built from ores mined on Tatooine, the station served as an outpost for explorers and other beings who were passing through the system. For many years, it was operated by Suvam Tan, until it began to decay. The ores that were used in its creation were poorly suited for use in space, and began to fracture. One fateful day, a freighter that was attempting to leaving Yavin Station caused a small crack to form in its hangar bay. In no time, the crack expanded and grew, and Yavin Station suffered a catastrophic, explosive decompression. All aboard were killed, and the force of the blast smashed Yavin Station into the barren surface of Yavin 22. However, the station absorbed the impact on its ventral surface, and many of its interior chambers were well-preserved, flash-frozen during the decompression.
