Hover-flare
this was a specialized form of incendiary device created during the years leading up to the Clone Wars. When launched, a hover-flare flew to a pre-determined altitude before igniting. It then hovered in place for a short period of time, providing a light source by which attacking forces could spot their enemies and attack them with more conventional weapons. The Confedereacy of Independent Systems made widespread use of hover-flares, which provided additional light for droid-based armies to see by.
