Firestone
this was a generic term used to describe an entire family of gemstones. Firestones were found on a variety of worlds, and each planet's form of firestone contained subtle differences that allowed it to be identified by gemologists. They were named for the way in which light was captured inside the stone's crystalline structure and flashed back at the eye, as it the stone were bursting with first. Most firestones were identified by the background color upon which the stones displayed their fiery flashes. The possession of a firestone was generally considered to be unlucky, although the basis of this belief was eventually traced to disgruntled diamond merchants who were losing money to firestone sales.
