this specialized, field-generating device was developed for use during surgery, to provide localized pressure on blood vessels. This allowed a surgery nurse to clamp off a leaking artery without actually touching the vessel, greatly reducing the chance of infection. These devices were in short supply during the height of the Clone Wars, and many field doctors were forced to utilize mechanical clamps.
