this immense worm was bio-engineered by the Yuuzhan Vong to serve as a tube through which a Koros-Strohna worldship could obtain nutrients from a planet-based location. The Gorros' Fen worm was extended down from the worldship, and literally sucked the nutrients from the planet's crust and mantle.
