this was the ore and mineral extraction operation established by Guldus Bemm and his pirates, after they discovered the planet Canyon while attempting to provide aid to a damaged Victory-class Star Dstroyer. Shortly after the Battle of Endor, Administrator Guldus Bemm tried to capture Luke Skywalker by claiming that the miners discovered a strange, crystalline mineral in the mines, and called for Luke Skywalker to come and see them, as they appeared suitable for use in lightsabers. Skywalker didn't go personally, but the group of New Republic agents who did were captured by Bemm's pirates. They eventually managed to escape.
