the Chadra-Fan pickpocket Kabe claimed to be a representative of this organization, during her years spent on Tatooine. Dressed up like a Jawa, she approached incoming starship captains and explained to them that they had to buy a "trade license" from her for 500 credits in order to do business on the planet. This façade infuriated the Jawas, since the Merchant's Association was a scam, and the license that captains really needed cost just 200 credits.
