similar to the "mark of contact" known as cho mai, cho sun was the cutting off of an opponent's entire arm. While this was equally effective in eliminating an opponent's weapon while causing minimal damage, cho sun was considered less elegant than cho mai. Nevertheless, it was often the quickest way to deal with an aggressive opponent, when surprise was necessary or when no chances could be taken.
