this was a model of datapad produced during the last decades of the Old Republic. The MDS-500 was a durable platform, and many survived well into the era of the New Republic. Jacen Solo found a working model on the planet Coruscant, after the Yuuzhan Vong had begun reforming the planet to resemble Yuuzhan'tar.
