this was a form of computer security system meant to emit a shrill humming noise whenever a being tried to infiltrate a computer. As the illegal slicer got deeper into a system, the noise grew louder and louder. Many computer slicers actually found the Circle quite useful, as it gave them an idea of how well a slicing operation was going.
