this was a specially-developed organism that was used by the Old Republic to scrub the atmosphere of the planet Coruscant, in an effort to maintain a breathable quality of air. These organisms were bred to be highly effective and efficient at converting carbon dioxide into oxygen, thereby taking the place of the plantlife which no longer covered the planet's surface.
