this underground chamber was created by the ancient Sith Lords as a place where the energy of the Dark Side of the Force could be focused and channeled to specific individual. Any Sith Lord using a focusing chamber had his ability to wield the Dark Side substantially increased for a short duration. The effects of the focusing chamber decreased after leaving the chamber, and waned faster over distances.
