this personal distress beacon was developed for use by civilian travelers by Saladar Systems, during the height of the Galactic Civil War. It could transmit an SOS signal up to five light-years from a downed ship, and the signal was sent through normal communications frequencies. With some adjustment, the PED-21 could also transmit along Imperial or Alliance frequencies, provided the user knew what those frequencies were.
