this Alliance defensive tactic was developed as a way to fight against Imperial blockade and control of a planet. Squadrons of starfighters were deployed in key hiding places throughout a planetary system, waiting to ambush attacking forces with surprise attacks. If properly planned and supplied, the space snipe can cut off an invading force, rendering it unable to continue and eventually freeing the system.
