this was the name given to Luke Skywalker's vision of a pathway which the Jedi Knights, and refugees in general, could take to escape the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy. The idea was that the Great River would link safeworlds that were out of the Yuuzhan Vong's path of invasion, and would include a convoluted hyperspace travel plan that maintained its secrecy. At the end of the path would be a world on which the Jedi could regroup and retrain, in an effort to discover a way to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong. Luke asked his sister, Leia Organa Solo, and her husband, Han, to do the initial scouting of planets along the Great River. The initial point of the path, known as Shelter, was formed at the remnants of the Maw Installation, primarily because it was located so near black holes. Other worlds were bypassed because of the presence of the Peace Brigade.
